Her son is two years out of college, struggling. He wanted to teach but couldn’t find a job. He’s taken odd jobs but nothing purposeful. He’s lost and disconsolate, she said. She and her husband want to “fix” things, but they can’t. So they worry and shed tears, watching their son fight feelings of doubt, despair.
I said I’ll do what I can to help him understand himself, define his brand, build a personal and professional marketing plan. Really, though, the value I’ll bring is to be someone who can share stories of having been where he is and fought those same doubts and worries at that age. I’ll listen, understand and help as best I can.
Please, everyone: when a younger person is struggling and needs help, do everything you can to build them up, give them hope, counsel them, make them believe in themselves. We were all helped along the right path when we were young and figuring things out; do the same for others.
