Was Baby in the corner with a Pabst?

Journalism 101: hook ’em with a strong headline.  This headline’s not just for effect. Stick with me, you’ll get it.

More and more, I see recent college grads and young professionals presenting vibes of entitlement, that the world owes them. Now, I know this is a generalization, and I apologize for that, but my own experience tells me this is becoming more common than I remember 10 years ago or 20 years ago. A college degree entitles you to nothing. It’s what you do with that degree and the wisdom you earned after 4 years of college that will create your future. And part of that wisdom is understanding that you need to start somewhere and earn that next great thing in your career.

Now, back to the picture and headline. Patrick Swayze. Great actor. Red Dawn. The Outsiders. Dirty Dancing. Roadhouse. Next of Kin. Ghost. Just some of his more memorable roles. But he had to pay his dues along the way, taking small roles that came along just to get his foot in the door and earn his chops, so to speak. Patrick Swayze in a disco-themed commercial for Pabst beer? No way, didn’t happen. But it did. Laugh, sure. But I bet Patrick was thrilled to get the gig…because it gave him an opportunity, created visibility, made him some money, added to his resume.
