For years I’ve made Sunday dinners for the family. Not every Sunday but a lot of them. My own soups and stews, 10-lb lasagna, slow-cooked ribs and a bunch of other stuff. Two weeks ago, I made these monster meatballs with jacked-up sauce full of peppers, garlic, onions and italian spices. I don’t usually know what I’m doing but I charge ahead and figure things out.
OK, relate this to work and career. Many times you may find yourself tasked with something that doesn’t fit your strengths. You could spend weeks and weeks and weeks learning, studying, prepping to make sure your work product is perfect…or you can bet on yourself, act with a little more urgency, learn as you go, make mistakes and learn.
I say bet on yourself, challenge yourself, don’t try to be perfect but be very good. Take the lead and make things happen.
