Take the time to help younger professionals become who they were meant to be.
While prepping for college years ago, my daughter said “no offense, Dad, but I don’t want to sit in an office all day”. She wanted something different. And she’s done something different. Emma has her masters and is a certified athletic trainer and, by the look of these notes in her “office”, she’s making a difference, caring for athletes at a high school academy in Texas. In her young career, she’s already credited with help saving an athlete’s life…no kidding.
As you progress in your career, you’ll find that there’s less pride and joy in your personal accomplishments but incredible satisfaction in helping younger professionals become who they were meant to be. Don’t look at these up-and-comers as threats, look at them as being you when you were younger and do what you can to inspire, guide, encourage and help them build a life and career.
