You want more money. There’s no crime in that. We all need money to live…heck, we need a lot more money these days to live. But, your company is not just going to roll-out a wheelbarrow full of dough for you just because you ask. So, let me offer some ways to go about asking for a raise and a promotion…ways that have worked for in the past and that have worked for others I’ve counseled:
Identify the problem to be solved: If you want to make more money, identify the major problems or challenges your company faces or opportunities for growth. Show that you’re in-tune with the current state of the organization and are aware of what needs fixing or addressing.
Show how the problem can be solved: Make a clear case on how you’d address those challenges or help the company capitalize on the opportunities. You don’t need to present a full-fledged business plan but offer a brief document on the steps you’d take to help the company make money, save money or do something better.
Lay-out your plan: What will you do first, second, third? Present your timeline
